Individual Counseling – Adults, teens, and children benefit from services provided by our professional counselors. Discover healthy ways to express your grief effectively and develop coping skills that help you feel supported and less isolated.
By appointment only. Fees based on income. We do not accept or file insurance, Medicare or Medicaid.
Adult Grief Support Group – Six weekly sessions for adults who have lost a spouse, parent, sibling, family member or friend. Provides a safe place to talk about feelings and gain knowledge and support from understanding people. Learn how to nurture and comfort yourself and begin to heal. Individual session required before participating in this group.
(Adults--Meets Tuesdays from 6-7:30 p.m.) Fee: $10 per session
Coping With the Loss of a Child – This support group if offered to adults who have suffered the death of a child of any age. A safe, nurturing environment to share the pain of losing one’s child and the accompanying changes that loss brings. Share memories and find ways of celebrating the life you shared with your child. Individual session required before participating in this group.
(Adults—Meets Mondays from 6-7:30 p.m.) Fee: $10 per session
Grief Support Group for the Loss of an Infant or Toddler – Six weekly sessions for adults who have experienced miscarriage, stillbirth or the death of a child up to age 2. Receive support from others and gain knowledge of how to nurture yourself. Participate in activities to honor and celebrate your child’s life. Individual session required before participating in this group.
(Adults—Meets Thursdays from 6-7:30 p.m.) Fee: $10 per session
Off-Site Bereavement Training and Education – Offered for businesses, schools, agencies, churches etc. by professional counselors. Programs designed based on needs of participants.
Scheduling and fees by pre-arrangement.
Community Grief Network- Provides up-to-date information and referrals about grief support services available in the community that specifically address the issues of pre-term, infant and child loss.
Special Programs (Call to enroll)
Adolescent Grief: Healing from Loss – Six-week support group for teenagers, ages 12-17, who are grieving the death of a loved one. Help teens better understand their emotions, meet peers and build healthy support systems. Teens participate in educational and expressive artistic activities, trust-building exercises and complete projects designed to honor their loved ones. Parents/guardians meet concurrently in a separate group.
Help and Hope for the Grieving Child – Six-week support group for children, ages 6-11, who are grieving the death of a loved one. Interactive games, discussion, and expressive art activities are used to allow children to express feelings, experience peer support, learn healthy vs. unhealthy ways to grieve and create ways to celebrate the lives of their loved one. Parents/guardians meet concurrently in a separate group.
Infant Loss Creative Expressions – 7-week group for mothers and fathers who have experienced infant loss due to miscarriage, stillbirth or the death of a child before the age of one. Honor and celebrate your baby’s life by creating a Memory Book to hold your precious memories. Share with others who have also suffered the loss of an infant.
Group meets on Thursday nights from 6-7:30 p.m. in the Spring and again in the Fall. Fee: $10 per session
Pet Loss Group – A short-term program for anyone grieving the loss of a companion animal. Individual counseling also available for pet loss. Fee: $10 per session
Summer Sunset Memorial Sail-a-bration – Annual old-fashioned picnic, musical entertainment, and sunset memorial balloon release to share memories and celebrate loved ones lost.
When the Holidays Hurt – Workshop designed to provide those who are grieving with helpful ideas for coping with the emotions surrounding the holidays.
A Holiday Commemoration – Tinsel and Tears – Celebrate with others who have lost loved ones by sharing food, music, memories and a candle-lighting ceremony.
Lending Library – An extensive collection of books for all ages on handling many types of grief and loss. Come in to check out materials.
Volunteer Program – The Tristesse Grief Center relies on volunteers to assist with groups, special events, administrative support, library maintenance and other projects. Please contact the Center if you are interested in volunteering.
Pamper Your Grieving Heart – A Saturday event devoted to teaching and demonstrating how women can nurture themselves. Participants will learn how massage, yoga and mindfulness techniques can be used to promote healing. Facials, make-up tips, manicures and tips for healthy living will be provided. Discussion groups will focus on self-esteem, assertiveness and authenticity.
